No pier fishing license?
California does not require a sport fishing license for recreational fishing from public ocean piers, including San Clemente Pier. The exemption does not extend to nearby beach fishing.
Size and bag limits, seasons, gear rules and report-card requirements still apply.

The 2026–2027 recreational season runs October 2, 2026 at 6pm through March 17, 2027. A lobster report card is required, including on public piers. Check current closures, legal gear and measurement rules before fishing.
